Privacy Policy
Effective date: August 2026 · Ollie is built for children, so privacy is the foundation, not a footnote.
What we do NOT do
- We do not store video or audio. Camera frames and microphone audio are processed in memory to help your child and are immediately discarded. Our system has no way to store or replay them.
- No advertising. We never show ads to children and never use any family's data for behavioral advertising.
- No selling or renting data. Ever.
- No third-party trackers on any page a child uses.
What we collect
- Parent account: your email address and password (stored hashed).
- Child profile: a first name and grade level. No last name, photo, or contact info is required for a child.
- Learning data (text only): short text summaries of what was worked on, per-skill progress, and grades. Optionally, text transcripts of what was said during a session — off unless you turn them on, and deletable any time.
- A voiceprint (a mathematical embedding, if you enroll one) used only to tell your child's voice from others in the room. It is not a recording and is never shared.
Children's privacy (COPPA)
Ollie is designed for children under 13, and we comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). Before any child can use Ollie, a parent must give verifiable parental consent. You control your child's data, can review or export it, and can delete everything with one click from your dashboard. We collect only what's needed to tutor your child, and we never condition your child's use on disclosing more than is reasonably necessary.
Schools (FERPA)
When a teacher or school uses Ollie's classroom tools, we act as a school official under FERPA with a legitimate educational interest, under the direction of the school. School data is used only to provide the service to that school, is owned by the school, and is governed by our data-processing agreement with the district. Classroom grades are shared with a family only when a parent explicitly links their child using a code the teacher provides.
How AI is used
To read handwritten work and tutor your child, Ollie sends the necessary information to our AI provider (Anthropic) through its API. That data is not used to train AI models. Camera frames sent for reading are held in memory only for that request and then dropped.
Keeping data safe
All connections use TLS encryption. Access to accounts is protected by signed sessions. Media never touches durable storage, and our logs never contain frames or audio.
Your choices & rights
- Access & export your family's data from your dashboard.
- Delete a child's data, or your whole account, at any time — deletion cascades across our systems.
- Turn off transcripts, voice, or specific subjects from your settings.
- Withdraw consent at any time, which ends your child's sessions immediately.
